Communication protocol and how it works

About communication protocol

Our bi-directional radio technology operates in the globally available 2.4 GHz frequency band and supports 11 channels between 2404 MHz and 2480 MHz.

It is important to understand that although our Gateways and Retail IoT connectors (also known as USB dongles) communicate in the same frequency band like WIFI, the protocol is different.

  • Bandwith of 1 channel: Wifi (22 MHz), PDi (1 MHz)
  • Output power: Wifi (100 mW), PDi Accesspoints (10 mW), PDi devices (1 mW)

A harmonized coexistence can be achieved by proper channel selection. If customers already have Wifi in place, a spectrum analyzer will help identify the Wifi channels used. It is highly recommended to use dedicated wifi channels.

In 98% of cases, customers use Wifi channels 1, 6 and 11 because they don’t overlap.

The sepioo® channels can be placed in between and at the end of the frequency band. As a result, there is no interference at all.

The detailed frequency of each channel is as follows:

  • Channel 0: 2404 MHz
  • Channel 1: 2410 MHz
  • Channel 2: 2422 MHz
  • Channel 3: 2425 MHz
  • Channel 4: 2442 MHz
  • Channel 5: 2450 MHz
  • Channel 6: 2462 MHz
  • Channel 7: 2470 MHz
  • Channel 8: 2474 MHz
  • Channel 9: 2477 MHz
  • Channel 10: 2480 MHz
