Customer Success Story: Pick-by-Light at sehen!wutscher

PDi Digital, in collaboration with its long-standing partner LNConsult, has successfully executed a project with the Austrian traditional optician “sehen!wutscher”, achieving an impressive increase in efficiency in their logistics processes. This joint initiative highlights how advanced PDi´s Digital Displays can revolutionize daily logistics operations with solutions such as Pick-by-Light.

The project impressively demonstrates how modern order picking technologies can improve everyday work in logistics. Until now, the Austrian family business “sehen!wutscher” still worked with traditional paper-based delivery and picking slips – a time-consuming and labor-intensive process. The current system has reached its limits, especially for orders with many individual products.

Goodbye paper!

The smart Pick-by-Light solution uses our sepioo Digital Displays based on electronic ink, which are attached to the storage locations of the respective items. The Displays are equipped with integrated, multi-colored LEDs that guide the person to the item during the picking process. Both the item name and the item barcode are shown on the Displays. Additional logistical information can be shown on the Displays as well.

The picking process - efficiency redefined

In the first step of the picking process, the order to be picked is selected on the tablet. The selected picking order is then sent to an industrial smartwatch which is worn on the back of the hand. The barcode on the Digital Display of the item to be picked can be scanned using the industrial smartwatch. Once the picking quantity has been confirmed, the LED stops flashing, and the LED of next Digital Display starts flashing signalizing the next item on the list to be picked.


The integration of these two technologies is enabled by our long-lasting Partner, LNConsult. The customized software developed for “sehen!wutscher” ensures a seamless interaction between software, Digital Displays and the smartwatches.

"Four times faster" - impressive results

The results speak for themselves: “We are even four times as fast as before!” says Lukas Kleemair, Logistics Manager at “sehen!wutscher”. With this Pick-by-Light solution, logistical processes are not only digitized, eliminating the need for traditional paper-based picking-list and paper labels, but are also significantly speeding up the picking process as well as minimizing search-time and wrong-picks. Remarkably, this smart Picking solution has reduced the error rate to almost zero, which further increases customer satisfaction.

Positive feedback & future plans

The introduction of the new Pick-by-Light system was very well received by the employees. Following the successful completion of this project, “sehen!wutscher” is already planning further steps. Together with LNConsult and PDi Digital, the traditional Austrian optician is working on a Put-to-Light system, which will build on the success of the Pick-by-Light solution to further increase efficiency and improve service quality.
