How does the communication protocol work?

Our bi-directional radio technology acts in the worldwide available 2.4 GHz frequency band and supports 11 channels, spread between 2404 MHz and 2480 MHz.

It is important to understand that although our Access Points and USB dongles communicate in the same frequency band like WIFI, the protocol is different.

  • Bandwith of 1 channel: Wifi (22 MHz), PDi (1 MHz)
  • Output power: Wifi (100 mW), PDi Accesspoints (10 mW), PDi devices (1 mW)

 

Due to a proper selection of channels, a harmonized co-existence is achievable. In case customers have already Wifi in place, a radio spectrum analyzer helps to identify the used Wifi channels. It is highly recommended to use fixed Wifi channels.

In 98% of cases, customers use Wifi Channel 1, 6, and 11 due to the fact that they don’t overlap by themselves.

The PDi channels can be placed in between and at the end of the frequency band. As a consequence, there is no interference at all.
